Old Problem Anew - SAR4

I responded to a 2006 post about problems running Search and Rescue 4 on a newer XP computer. I have the ATI Radeon 1950 card and had to reformat and reinstall XP after a virus. Previously, SAR4 ran along with Vietnam Medivac. Now, after supposedly reinstalling the same drivers when i go to run a mission, I get a black screen, no mouse, but hear the audio in the background. Running in Safe Mode lets me get further past the first video played at the startup to the actual mission.

Did anyone ever solve the problem? Seems some fingers were pointed at the ATI card.

Drivers should be renewed, both video and audio (just in case) too. In addition, check for multimedia codecs causing issues.

Offtopic tip: run a virus scanner, then you don't need to reinstall XP when you're infected. And don't forget that only traditional virusses can be detected without AV software, spyware and trojans are designed for "stealthy" work.

I ran every scanner I could find - avast, AVG, pest patrol, Zone alarm. Could not find virus but was attached to explorer. I haven't reinstalled all that was there originally when I tried SAR4. A puzzle why it won't run this time and I was hoping someone remembered what worked the first time. Guess my video card is just incompatible with SAR4, but it does run
Vietnam Medivac which is nearly the same program. Not much on the internet about it either. Tried on kinds of refresh rate changes, resolution changes. The blank video with sound must mean something and I've never heard of that before.

A puzzle but time to move on.
