Default Gamecube to monitor & speakers: I got sound but no video

Hi folks,

Because I would like to do some retro gaming, I decided to connect my good old Gamecube to a monitor (the only tv I have got available for it is not really satisfying me when gaming).

The problem though is that the sound is working (directly plugged into a speaker set), but I don't get video output to my monitor.

So I may be doing something wrong, but I don't know what. Or is one or more of the cables/adapters not working properly?

The cables I used are, starting from the gamecube:
  1. Official cable going from a special analog out to component A/V (Red, white, yellow), of which
  2. the audio connectors (red & white) are plugged directly into the speakers (--> works). The yellow connector is plugged into the official component A/V to scart adapter.
  3. Lastmentioned adapter is plugged into a scart double socket.
  4. At the other side of the scart double socket, the scart connector of a scart to D-sub cable is used.

I think I will try to connect the console in the traditional way, to check whether the component A/V to scart adapter is cauusing the problem.

And did it work when you did that?

It appeared to work when I did that. My new theory is that the video signal is not an RGB signal when using the regular Gamecube cable. However, when checking the manual for info about the use of the so-called RGB cable, I see that the IN-side of the cable is still the GC's analog connection while the OUT-side of the RGB cable is scart. I actually cannot imagine that the RGB cable changes the signal from whatever to RGB (cause a cable is nothing else than a cable, right?).

So the regular cable and the component A/V to scart adapter work fine, but somehow the signal seems not to be "correct" (RGB) for further transfer through the scart to D-sub cable.
