i have onboard sound and i just bought a sound card to upgrade along with my new 5.1 surround sound speaker set (philips is the brand od soundcard and creative are the speakers.) I disable my onboard sound in the BIOS and then i unplugged the cords from the motherboard, that run from the board to the DVD player and CD-ROM. Then i put in my new sound card and put the plugs from the CD-ROM and DVD into the soundcard correctly. This all worked but then as i came to college all of a sudden my computer has gone wacko, and it started booting up very slow. After the windows loading screen (the one before the log on screen) my screen goes gray and the log on screen will not come up and if it does it will take forever. So i eventually re-installed windows xp and i tried to install the drivers for the sound card again on the newly installed windows, but it did it again with the booting up slow. I know its my sound card b/c whenever i uninstall it my computer is fine. Any ideas on how i can do to get my sound working again?
