Because OCing is not natural, its a "hack". If you don't do it properly or go higher then the CPU can take it will either become unstable (like your experiancing) or completly fry... try down clocking, you might be higher then the limit...

I would buy a new fan if yours broke, it probably was a POS quality one...

I don't CPU OC so if you want better knowledge on it your gonna have to wait till someone who has more experiance with CPU OCing replies.

You might be experiencing inestabillity because of your RAM frequency and timings. While you were listing your system's components you failed to mention something very important: your motherboard. Aside from that you didn't specify your RAM timings as well. Overclocking is also trial and error, basically all you do is experiment which FSB (and multiplier in case you got an ES or use AMD CPUs) is right for you. FSB/memory dividers are also helpfull.

dude..dont make me slap you!
using prometeia mach 2 he would get his cpu to perhaps 3,7ghz.
heat isnt exactly the biggest problem when overclocking that cpu..

you want to clock it even further ?
either get water cooling or prometeia\vapochill.
you will only get "so" far using a fan.

your temperatures seem okay,
something you may want to consider to help your overclock is to raise the voltage *a little bit* at each time, and overclocking a bit until you experience crashes. If your temps are okay, then again, add a *LITTLE* bit of voltage to your cpu. Keep in mind with more voltage you risk frying your cpu, due too heat and too much voltage.

your ram and hardware also plays an important part in how much you overclock.
always remember to overclock your hardware with extreme caution as a few mhz or ghz overclock will be useless if it becomes 0ghz or 0mhz due to a dead chip.

I wish you the best of luck in your overclocking and again be careful.
