I have an AMD Tbird 1.4 Ghz CPU (yes i know it sucks )
512 SD RAM (i know it also sucks )
KT2 combo mainboard with Via chipset
60 GB HD
Geforce 4 MX 440 (64MB)

AMD Tbird can be a pain in the ass for overclocking,
Try a bigger heatsink and fan see if that helps.
and you forgot to say that your video card sucks aswell :P

Ok
I put my brothers AMD Athlon XP 1.8+ GHz CPU in
i installed 512 MB of DDR RAM
But can only get the CPU up to 1.75 GHZ before the computer crashes :nxs:
Here are the voltages:
Vcore 1.85
Dram 2.8
AGP 1.8
at 1.75 GHz It freezes when i run Toast for about 10 seconds
What am i doing wrong...

Nothing, what were you expecting DMA? Speed binning is usually pretty accurate, the only time a processor does insane OC is usually when it is on the low end of the product line AND the process the chips are manufactured on is doing very well. If most of the CPUs made are able to do ~2.0ghz but the distribution channel requires 1.4-2.0ghz then some of the CPUs labeled 1.4 are able to do ~2.1. Notice the words "some" and "maybe" it is all about luck and you seem to be lacking in luck.

1.7GHz from an Athlon XP 1800+ is a decent over clock, The JIHUB stepping 1800+ Athlons are capable of 2.3GHz stable.
Just because it has the same model number or even the same core that doesn't mean it's the same processor, if your looking to over clock you do your research before hand and buy one you know has been clocked up to very high clock speeds. it's as simple as that, or you can get lucky
