My HD makes a clicking sound now and again, like it has a spasm or something. My last HD had that too, and some weeks ago, it died. Now this disk has it too, it seems, but it's not even a year old! Could it be my HD controller on my mobo? Or even the cable (it's a very long one)?
Well I know I can change the cable to try that, but these days I only have 1 HD left, so I cant change the HD.. |

If it's clicking then it could be the clicks of death.
How long is the warranty on a new harddrive? I haven't bought one in two years so I don't know offhand. If it's under warranty, return it. If/when it finally does die (If you haven't already backed up important stuff that is, you should be doing this now if you suspect it may die soon), take it out of your PC, put it in a tupperware box and put it in the freezer for about an hour. Take it out the freezer, plug it in while it's still really really cold and turn on your PC. It might work, it did for me, and I was able to get my important docs etc; as mine died without ANY warning, I had no chance to backup beforehand. |
