ati radeon cards...

hey i have some money to spend, and im looking into the market of the ati radeon cards... and im thinking, which is better for a full-time gamer, a radeon 9800 pro, or xt,
or the radeon 9600 pro, or xt...

i just want to make sure that i keep my comp in line... also, will it be able to run recent games, like halo pc and such? because when i purchased halo with my current card, i couldnt run it, being that i had an older card than what they tested it on... i just want the best card of those, and specs on maybe the ati site with all the info about it plz...

That is a simple queston, out of all those, in fact out of all the cards out there the Radeon 9800XT is the best. The only real dicision is what manufacturer to buy it from, go with Saphire if you can, thats my recommendation. :thumbup:

well, now that ive looked at the prices for the cards, i see that radeon 9800XT 256 MB is $500 at best buy... is there any place else where i could get it for cheaper?

the other thing is, can i play halo, half-life 2, or doom 3 on it decently? like without lag or having to turn down graphic details horribly low to be able to play a game? cuz i wasnt able to play halo on my video card now, and ill be pissed off if i pay $500 for a card that i wont be able to play halo on...

newegg.com is great, deffinately check there. They have a refurbished OEM version of the Radeon 9800XT on there right now for $351. You ain't gonna find it any cheaper than that for awhile. You should be able to play everygame coming out for awhile, and at very high detatil levels too. What kind of processor and RAM do you have? Those would be your other main bottles necks is they suck. :thumbup:

my comp is pretty old, i havent updated in a long time...

im not sure what processor i have right now, but i only have 256 mb of ram, but ive already ordered two 1 gig chips of ram, so it shouldnt be much of a problem, i hope...

how can i check what my processor is, i havent touched my comp for a while...

A spendy card might be a waste of money if your comp is like mine, a motherboard with only 2x agp slot, limited to pc133 ram, slow hard drive, a good card will only help a little in my case....Im sticking with my geforce2 till I can afford to rebuild my whole system. :angel:

Right click My computer, click Properties, BAM! btw, if you are running win98, it wont know how to use all that ram... :angel:

Always go with the latest if you are about to get a new one. I never saw the purpose of getting a 2nd because...why should ya.
On the other hand you should have the cash or a job where you can.......

im running windows 2000, (im not too convinced about XP, ive heard it has its own family of bugs) will 2000 be able to handle all the RAM?
