Busted pc

Hi guys,my brother has a problem with his pc and I was wondering if you can help us.Yesterday he installed a demo of a program(alcahol cd burning or something like that) and when he'd finished installing it it asked him to restart his computer,When he restarts it goes through all the initial screens(packard bell etc) and just after the windows 98 screen it just stops,the screen is completely blank except for a flashing _ in the top left corner,it will not go any further than that,there is no beeping or anything like that.He is using windows me.Thanks.

hmm, tricky problem. I'm guessing the cd burning program installed some aspi drivers that windows me didn't like. Your brother shouldn't be using that OS though, since it's considered to be microsoft's worst OS ever. What I would do is to hook the harddrive up to a different pc, backup the filed he needed, then install windows 2000/XP, and live happily ever after.

That and replace the Packard Bell asap. I had one of those for a while, and it was a constant headache.

Just about anything is an improvement over PB.
