there is a nice little program called
Slo'Mo which you can get at the Site Of Id Games www.idsoftware.com
and then go to downloads
go down the whole list to see the program
which slows down your cpu
a little bit!!!!

Not always, just like doom runs too fast on newer computers, it has something to do with code and proc instructions, I think. Im sure someone here knows the technical explanation...
Some old games dont have the fps locked, so games will run way too fast..
Try downloading the patch and see if that works,
