No kidding. My icq, trillian and mIRC keep signing me off!! I open trillian (or mIRC) and 2-10 minutes later it signs automatically off. Sometimes it reconnects, but mostly it doesnt. Sometimes it can sign on and off 5 times in 10 minutes. I have had this problem for some time now and I would really like to get rid of it.
I dont know how this started but since this started i've reinstalled windows about 3-4 times.
And i've checked every option available in the different chat programs but nothing helped.
Im currently running WinXP sp1.
Any ideas before I end up brutally smashing my monitor in a furious rage?

How about your ISP?
Any chance your connections are dropping at that rate?

Would you be so kind to explain what ISP means?

I have thought of that, but it ran nicely the first couple of months with my new internet service provider and then it suddenly started doing this sh*t.
However....if I call my ISP, what would I say to them??
Quote:
ME: "Hello ISP"
ISP: "hello customer"
ME: "I have a problem"
ISP: "what is your problem?"
ME: "My chatting programs keep signing me off and I think it's your fault"
|
Now what can the isp-techsupporter possibly say to help me?

What's wrong with you two?
One of our own asks for help and all you do is make fun of him? :nxs:
I understand making fun, but at least offer something constructive!
Ok, Crackpot, sorry for the jargon. I ASSumed most netizens knew the phrase. If all of your chat programs are dumping and reconnecting at the exact same time, that is a definite indicator that the problem isn't on your end.
Next time it happens, try to connect to Google or Yahoo and see if you get a "Page not found" error. If so, contact your provider and tell them you are getting random disonnects and tell them how you know.
I change providers because my old one was dropping me for 10-15 seconds at a time around midnight - 1:00. You pay for service, so they damn well should provide you connection when you want it.

You may have a virus, a trojan or a program running in the background that is forcing the disconnect. Click the following link Trend Micro and look for Free Online Scan or simply click here Housecall. Run a scan on your C drive.
Do you have software to protect your computer while surfing online? Try ZoneAlarm. The standard version is free and you can find it here Free ZoneAlarm.
You can also download Ad-aware from Lavasoft. Type Adaware in the search window for Yahoo and there will be several listings. I believe they even have a website in Danish but I am not positive.
Hope this helps.
Note: I am also looking for some help. Please refer to my post in Gamer's Hellp>My Sig. Thank you.
