Orion, I really think that you should have had all of this thought through before you even thought about buying computers.

You should prepare a business plan. Going into this without any clue as to what you're doing, and asking people who have no experience on an internet forum about it is not the best way to go about it.

It's a big investment too, I'd hate to see this fail because you haven't thought/planned enough.

I'd agree with Doug here. Askin people on here might not be the smartest thing although there are some of us that know what we are talkiing about. Did you ever talk to the small business adminastration? As they could help set up a business plan and even help with your finances. Running a business is not easy and certainly not cheap!

Just my 2 cents though

I know Ill get flamed for suggesting it, but, those seem like pretty high end comps for the general public. I know youll be ready for the upcoming big games. However you could bring that price point down alot and still upgrade easily down the road if you prove a success. Another thing, maybe a room off to the side w/coffee for the 'rents that will tend to loiter. Also consider security, Fri & Sat and during the summer. One big fight and there goes your business for a few days, not to mention your insurance rates. ;)

I totally agree with you Doug. I am not buying any computers right now anyways. I just wanted a quote from Dell and Alienware but I also wanted to know how the people on these forums felt about the systems. The more information or suggestions, the better off I am. Suggestions like the ones from ByNd3R do help. I have the security issue already taken care of by a local security company. As far as the computers are concerned, I would rather be more up to date now then later. Even though they are high end systems, the quote from Dell was very reasonable. And the systems do not cost anywhere near $2,000 a piece. I just cannot post the quote here.

You are correct about writting a business plan though. I have no idea what I am doing so I have people working with me to help me out. I do not pay a dime since they are family members. Thanks anyways.

dell seems like a smart choice.. that is, if you want to support a company that's offshoring a lot of its jobs

the difference between the two systems isn't very big, and the intel system should be fine for a long time.

You should consider waiting for the next generation of video cards, they will be available around march/april.
Also get Linux os for your server; it's more reliable than windows xp.

As for the games, get well-known multi-player games like:
Ut 2003 (2004)
Quake 3
Counterstrike
Rainbow six rs
Medal of honor
Call of duty
Battlefield 1942 (+ mods because they are free)
Medal of honor
Wolfenstein et
Halo
Colin mc rae 2 or 3
Need for speed x
Warcraf 3
Age of empires/mythology
Cossacks
Diablo 2

For most games you can get some sort of game-licence so you wont have to buy 20 copys each time , maybe someone else on this forum can tell you more about that.

ABS is a good company to look at also as suggested. If I had to chose between Dell and Alienware for a cafe it would be Dell for the cost factor. But I wouldn't build XPS systems, I would save even more money and build 8300 systems to get the cost down to around 1200ish without a discount/coupons. Keep in mind Dells support is outsourced now to India.
