well....looking to buy a new card
looked up for the prices and both are kinda same, so lets forget the price
had a look in ATI's site and their produc information and this is wut I got :

RADEON 9600 XT
Frame Buffer 128MB DDR (the one I looked into had 256MB tho)
Memory Interface 128-bit
Rendering Pipelines 4
Pixel Fillrate (Gpixels/sec) 2.0
Engine Clock (MHz) 500
Memory Clock (MHz) 600
Output Connections VGA + TV + DVI

RADEON 9800
Frame Buffer 128MB DDR
Memory Interface 256-bit (2x9600xt)
Rendering Pipelines 8 (2x9600xt)
Pixel Fillrate (Gpixels/sec) 2.6
Engine Clock (MHz) 325
Memory Clock (MHz) 580
Output Connections VGA + TV + DVI

so all in all it looks like 9800se beats 9600xt in some details but the 9600 still have 128mb more...so I dunno wut to do....any ideas ?

128mb is all you need mate, 256mb is over board and more of a gimmick than anything.. maye improve framerates my 2-4fps if that

9800 is the one you want mate

The 9800Pro 128mb is currently the best value in video cards.

'looked up for the prices and both are kinda same, so lets forget the price'

The 9800 is better than 9600Xt, end of story.

and saying a card 'looks' better is pure idiocy.
---------------------------

The 9800 has x2 the pipelines

and x2 the memory interface

------------------------
those are 2 of the key factors in diciding which is better.
..Even though the Memory clock and the engine clock are not as high as the 9600Xt.. it will still perform better, i am not sure why this is (might have something to do with the 256-bit interface), but someone else might be able to explain

our (hwhell) second 9600xt review is done and will be going up soon, but i can tell you already that having 256mb of ram will actually give you worse performance than 128, even with 9600xt. this isn't necessarily the case with all vidcards, but it is here - so go with the 9800se

hmmm....wait a min
256 gives me worse performance?! how come ? =O
the new 9800xt are 256mb so they would work better if tehy had 128mb ?!

and besides I just had a look and I see that the 9800SE is 128bit not 256

http://www.extremeoverclocking.com/reviews...e_9800SE_6.html

have a look there, looks like the 9600pro works better than the 9800se, so guess the 9600xt will work better for sure.
