radeon 9600pro 256mb or 9800pro 128mb

Hi - got a radeon 9100 128mb a few months ago which is really a rebadged 8900. Won't work on Far Cry demo. Other specs: 1.7 ghz athlon, 512 of ddr (2100?). Considering a 9600Pro 256mb or 9800Pro 128mb - which will still do the job in a few months when Halo 2 and Doom 3 come out? Or should I look at a geforce model xx__?

as far as i know you cant change your graphic card in your xbox :P
if you didnt know, halo2 is coming for xbox and no word on a pc version

definately the radeon 9800 pro-even though it has 128 compared to 256-no games today really take advantage of the extra ram. the arcitechture of the 9800 is far better than the 9600. The 9800 has a standard 8 texture pipe lines-better rendering- and has (most significant) 256-bit MEMORY interface-reduce bottlenecking and much better performance. i would say that the 9800 is about 30-40% faster than the 9600.

most important, WAIT to buy a card untill you buy those games. both nvidia and ati is coming out with new cards based on new architecture soon (nv40 and r420) and that means the 9800pro will drop even more in prize when those are out so whatever you do dont buy the damn card now!

unless he wants to play current games(ala farcry, callofduty, BF:vietnam) at a fluid rate. and a 9100 is actually a rebaddged 8500-no such thing as an 8900-unless your talking about hte expensive workhorse card-firegl, which is 8800.

To be honest if n e one has gone out and bought a 9600 they are gonna say thats better and if someones bought a 9800 they're gonna say thats better, i can imagine the 9800 being a bit more meaty then the 9600 but i didnt have a spare 2-300 quid so i went for the cheaper one, still it picks up some hardcore framerates on the doom 3 leaked demo

the price diff between 9600xt 256mb and 9800pro 128mb is like 70$ which in my opinion it really worth it cuz the 9800 is way better
but as saif before u better wait till a week or two before those major games (HL2, DOOM3) come out and then upgrade ur system
thats at least am gonan do, cuz right now there arent that much good games which worth buying a new card for and besides the price is gonan drop drasticly when the new generation of cards come out, so if u r gonna buy that card for doom3 just wait a little ;) who knows maybe with this money u will be bale to get a way better card then
