As far as the floating point precision, yes, nVidia would like to claim they use 32 bit, but the truth is they usually end up using 16 bit and converting it to enable them to keep up with ATi's Direct X 9 standard 24 bit performance. The real problem is that nVidia thought they would be clever and develop their own answer to Direct X and expected everyone to adapt. Unfortunately it didn't pan out the way they had planned and their Cine-FX or whatever they called it was pretty much a flop. I still don't see the "cinematic quality" real-time rendering they promised. In fact, ATi usually has better image quality for the time being. It will be interesting to see what happens when (if?) they adapt their card to use a true 24 bit path, like they should have with the GeForce-FX 5800 Ultra. Then there may finally be some good competition going on again. I think if they take the time to rethink their architecture and shaders instead of trying to clock the hell out of the GPU and memory, and pumping up their marketing department, they might end up making a big comeback. Don't get me wrong... both companies have awesome cards out right now, but I believe the ATi variations do better on almost any DX9 intensive game. Oh and speaking of Dawn, the nVidia fairy demo... Did everyone know that you can run that demo on an ATi card with a few opengl files (and it performs better than the cards it was made for - much like UT2003 - "The way it's meant to be played" is definitely just a slogan, as it runs better on ATi) Run Dawn demo on ATi cards |

I'm kinda skeptical about the new ATI cards, up until afew months ago they had a 12 pipeline architecture, then when they heard Nvidia was using 16 pipes they bumped it up to 16 aswell. This kind of last minute design change has me abit worried as to the integrity of the design. I guess we'll have to wait and see though. All I know is a 3D mark 03 score of 12,000 and Halo at 1600x1200 full effects running at 60fps sounds pretty damned sweet to me.

Yea even though Halo might not look to pretty it is a good game for benchmarking purposes, just look at how much trouble it gave other cards.
