I have a Radeon 9700 running on a Soyo Tek motherboard and have had compatibility problems since the day i put the two together, i know that a geforce card will run fine w/the soyo tek board, so should i ditch my radeon and get a geforce? or should i ditch my motherboard and get somethin else?

Which is better Nvidia or Ati?
This question has no answer. There¡¯re too many graphics to compete. New ones come out too soon and they compete against each other. But if there has to be an answer, it would be a tie. I personally believe that Nvidia is better. But many gamers might not say such a thing.

With ATI:
1) ATI cards are more powerful and better at rendering most graphics after tests.
2) ATI has some compatibility issues because some cards don't work well with certain games but others they are extraordinary.
3) ATI cards overheat a lot. I'm not sure if this has to do with the manufacturers of the cards or if it has to do with what's actually own the card.

With NVIDIA:
1) Over-heating is not a problem with Nvidia, good fan designs and heat-sink.
2) NVIDIA is more stable but expensive. No NV-40 chip can out-performance ATI¡¯s Radeon 9800 XT but with the stability issue, that wouldn¡¯t be true. Which is better, a more stable performance or an unstable up and down performance?
3) NVIDIA cards work on more computers because the company is more popular. More people know Nvidia than Ati but as Ati expands, more and more people will get to know the companies better.

But over the past year, Nvidia has dropped quite a bit. Microsoft cancelled it¡¯s X-Box contract because of price issue. They are switching to Ati cards. Nvidia offered Sony Play station 3 but they said they could do better by themselves. Ati¡¯s cards are outperforming Nvidia cards. But just as it¡¯s dropping, the new dream card Nvidia GeForce 6800 came out. The NV-45 chip will out-perform any Ati cards on the market so far. Gamers have once again found Nvidia¡¯s real power, stability and good pricing. It¡¯s has many new features and for the fps, it can outperform the ATI Radeon 9800XT by 3 times in most recent games. This outstanding jump made Nvidia stand out again as it once was. But as Nvidia releases its new card, ATI is ready for this competition. They say that the new XT800 will come on May 4th, 2004. Which has a core clock faster than the GeForce 6800 but not as many fps. In my point of view, Nvidia is better then ATI. Go Nvidia
Go GeForce 6800ultra!

Here, take a look at this, ATi has relased the x800 pro boards already.

The x800 xt will be a bit later for sale.

I cant wait to see the first benchmarks of this.

Yeah, thats true if u use some 4 years old drivers.

Nvidia has the same amount of problems with theyr drivers already from the day ATi relased Catalyst, so get your facts strayght before you post it here.

You sound like all the other Nvidia customers, that are blinded from the "this is the way its ment to be played" advertisement. I have herd meany guys, that have changed from Nvidia for this last era (9600, 9700 and 9800), and everyone is more then happy with that, and thats me included (ovned a GF2 Ultra before).

I dont know a lot about video cards but still i agree that ATI and Nvidia are equal in a way. I never tried Radeon but i used Nvidia. ATI is winning the battle agains FX but it didnt win the battle agains GeForce 4,3,2 in the old days. As i looked at ther rewies of people that tested XT800 and FX6800 i sow that ATI was better performing in graphical games like Far Cry, but Nvidia card performed better in fast action games like Call of Duty. Basicly ATI has advantage in use of dx 9.0 but Nvidia has advantage in use of OpenGL. Dont say Nvidia sucks or ATI sucks, their both good and bad.

actually, in the upcoming cards both nvidia and ati are both extremely fast at dx9 stuff. the problem with nvidia's 6800 ultra (etc) is that the performance is degraded more as you turn on antialiasing and anistropic filtering, and since many reviews focus much of their attention on just that then you'll often see ati winning by "a lot". But on the other hand, nvidia has ps3.0 support (might actually be useful in a few months, time will tell), and then there's the improved video capabilities which might attract some buyers from the vid editing industry (and hobbyists too)
