I just got and installed a new AOpen 5900XT for $170US and gotta say that it was probably one of the best price/perfomance deals around. The 5900Xt is a great card if you wanna play the "next gen" games and every penny counts.

actually, i think doom3's engine is based on opengl technology, therefore having nothing to do w/ dx9...i might be wrong, but i just had to point that out. ;) |

the 5900xt's core can be oc'd quite a lot; not too far from the speed of the 5900 ultra. the 9800xt is a great card (i like mine a lot ), but it's far more expensive.

Within 5 min of installing my new card I had it clocked over 80mhz above the stock core and the RAM I oced almost 30mhz past the stock speed, so I would definately have to agree with you that the 5900xt is a great OCer's card. Feels like theres still alittle room to OC the core but I know the RAM is being pushed to its max. I've got a feeling that a serious power user who knows what they're doing could get a 5900XT to perform at 9800pro levels, maybe I'm being abit overzealous but thats just a testament to how impressed I am by this card.

Yes, but imagine how well an overclocked 9800XT or 59x0 Ultra performs... or next gen boards...
LOVELY! Anyway,listen... DOOM III will run on most Hardware T&L boards to some extent, because its in ID's interests to do so, however DirectX9 compatible hardware is going to be in the recommended spec section (Except Nvidia Geforce MX series of course, ROFL!) and you can expect average performance from anything higher than a Radeon 8500/Geforce 3Ti upwards, however if you have not spent any substantial cash on computer hardware over the last 18 months or so you can expect to need an upgrade guys to play at acceptable frame rates with any decent level of graphics detail... Its how the industry works for Christ's sake... Just IMHO! |
