Hello.
I have somewhat of a unique setup here. (probably not but I can't find anyone else who has the same) My PC has a wired network with one computer. Peer to peer. I share the internet from my PC with the other PC over the crossover cable. This works fine. I installed a 802.11g card in my PC today to share the network/internet with my laptop. This is where things go wrong. I created a network bridge between the wireless LAN and the wired LAN so that I could share the bridge in my internet connection network. This doesn't work. The wireless LAN is rendered useless and I can't even access anything on the net from MY pc (the one that's physically connected to the net). Any ideas? P.S. Don't shit up my thread. ;( |

So this 802.11g card is a wireless tranciever or what?
And how could you create a bridge between a wireless and a wired LAN? I presume your are running WindowsXP. So far only option i see is to either make it all wires/or wireless.

disregard crackpot, it's fully possible. i dont have any experience with wireless networks, but it's common knowledge that they're more work to set up than wired networks. see if you can find some wireless installation guides on the web and see if you can relate your situation to some of it, and maybe get some pointers.

Saw the same kind of thing at my last job several times.
Wish I could offer you some help, but I never had the opportunity to fix it. One of the other guys worked out those issues, and it took a fair amount of effort and sometimes babysitting to get them running and keep them up. GL

basically what you can'tdo is share internet over more then one lancard. In your case you make the wireless card route the internet traffic to other pc's and the normal lancard for a simple network w/o internet. OR get a nice router (even wireless) or just put cables everywhere. A switch could also work. Besides, even if sharing the internet on lan and wifi, you'll get very slow speeds probably as latest wifi's are only working at 54Mbit/s and then itdepends on what distance you are from the transmitter/reciever . I'ld stick to cables. Best protected / no hassles from radiowave lurkers and other shitheads.
you could search online for some info on sharing internet at the same on a lan and wifi card.. but i doubt it you'll find anything hellpfull. Peace, TVM |
