everything that can be done with sm 3 can be done with sm 2 (as of now) and it looks exactly the same. the thing though is that sm3 will run faster but how much faster will time have to tell since there arent any sm3 games out. crytek will release a sm3 patch for farcry, so it shuldnt take that long untill we see some proof on the speed improvement sm3 have over sm2. so speed is the only reason really to go with a ps3.0 card (if there is a nice speed bost that is) you have to remember though that you are a winner whichever card you get. both cards are awesome cards so you cant go wrong regardless of what you pick  |

I agree to Molle on this one.
I will wait and see which of them is faster overall, and only then il chose one. Dont forget guys, that ati has that special normals feature, whit which you can have the same poly count, but 2 times better quality models, so the speed stays the same. I dont know if some games will realy feature it, but then again why should ati make that? Here taka a look in this page, ati has set tha 3dmark world record again, but what bugs me is that they used a totaly overclocked vidcard and cpu, maybe not overclocked to the max, but enyway, why didnt they tell us the non overclocked score: http://www.megagames.com/news/html/hardwar...rldrecord.shtml |

it's also about making it easier for developers to make shaders.
the speed increase can actually be somewhat dramatic though, like with the geometry instancing, which you can see on one of the nvidia vids. i think ps3.0 can make a difference if the developers choose to properly use it, so it sort of depends on how hard nvidia pushes the technology

Ah I found a ATI fan boy :P
[Nvidia fan talk Hmm your the first fanboy that isn't talking about the two molex thing too :-/ But does 20fps don't mater at this moment, but if you wait 4 months they will becasue then its: Unreal 3 ATI - 20fps Nvidia - 40fps Hmm I take the Geforce 6800 GS (faster then the higher clocked x800XT :P) And Nvidia is coming with a new version of the Geforce 6800 Soon! And then the nv41 is coming with PCI express support kiss your ati-fan-ass good-bye (btw I'm running with a GeForece 2 Ultra at this moment. I don't care about 3dmarks at all I just love Nvidia [/Nvidia fan talk We all need to wait sometime until the retail samples are reviewed, because there are reporst that ati has sent out diffrent kind of x800xt (with diffrent clock rate) And Nvidia doesn't produce any cards so ASUS, Leadteak, msi ETC should show there cards so we can really tell wich RETAIL cards are beter. I think that the nv40 is a beter GPU then the r420 (thats the X800 serie right?) Because it preforms equal to a higher clocked ATI card, but the image quality of a ATI card is beter! Greetz, N-Freak p.s. you guys have seen the new unreal engine right? wath did the developers say? The Nv40 is the only video card that can give is a 'ok' framerate! |

Enyway, the 6800 is not even relased yet, so thats total shit what an nvidia fanboy ses. And the part where you say that unreal engine 3 is running on nvidia only, not only is it not optimised, but nvidia has bought into unreal (that logo at the beggining), so they optimized it for nvidia only at this stage IMO, so that nvidia has a bit of positive advertising from them. Most of you seem blind to me, talking about things that arnt still relased. Cant you wait untill they all get reviewed by trustful sources? And when did ati need a special patch for a game tu run last time? You dont even own one, so how do you know? Oh, and the 3Dc is the normals feature i was talking about, and that realy sounds like a big advantage in speed and quality of 3d models. |
