Quake III problem.

I've got problem with quake 3. I got quite good comp (for q3 shud be ok) but game isn't full smooth. Even if fps is 100 and more almost every time in first cupole of minutes on start of every map game runs bed(mouse lags, even if fps is good it feel like 10fps !!) (HDD control is red all time) If i w8 some time hdd contol is normal (read: doesn't ligthing all the time)
It's not that my comp is too slow (XP2400+ r9100,256DDR), and this happen even in low details.
Maybe it's connection problem (i've 112,5kb/s), but i don't think so (ping are 50 - 100) (btw what is best rate and max patckets for my connection type ?? PLS ANSWER THAT)
On servers whtout PB this problem is smaller - game runs good or only for w few moments are mouse lags.

Enybony know what's happen ??
Not only i got this problem (my friend wht batron 2500+ 512 ram also got and i hean on servers lots of ppl are telling that they have the same problem.

Ok, This one was a little hard to understand. I can help you with one thing though.

Many games do not use your full connection speed. This kind of baffles me, aswell. We have a 1.2mb line, but we can never fully use it for gaming. The only thing that will help you majorly is having a great ping. A ping inbetween 50-100 for Quake 3 is just fine. For other games, you could run into trouble.

What you didn't seem to tell us is how fast your internet is. If you could reply with that, maybe i could be of assistance.

reinstall your drivers, including those for the motherboard. make sure you don't have any unnecessary programs running in the background before you start playing. it seems like the hdd is being accessed heavily for some reason, and im thinking you don't have the best motherboard drivers, which makes the cpu be utilized 100% whenever the hdd is being accessed, and that's what reduces your game performance.

also, is this in every game?

It doesn't problem of my comp. I serch net and i find thet PB couse this prob.
When it's updating HDD are using much so game doesn't run smooth.
So what is q3 command to force PB to less using HDD ??

Drivers a have:
via 4 in 1 (can't remember whats no. but i thin x.51 or something)
cata 4.5

All gamers i play works fine.
