and btw, its not even the pixel shader that handles displacement mapping its the vertex shader (those pictures uses displacement mapping) :P so like i said, you really dont have a clue what you are talking about read up! edit: i have seen images and i know every technical thing about this whole deal, you have to have an idea how it works and this you do not its not just black and white as you see it. |

I guess you did not see the images from nVidia
One side "PS2" On the other "PS3" And, now its out. It has abosolutly NOTHING to do with Pixel shader 3.0 Its a feature in the editor ! But i guess you would have to see the images. Edit: Found em. http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjA5%E2%80%9C So ... It has nothing to do with shader model Edit2: Well then, molle. Explain it to me then. Explain why nVidia's SM3 effect in FarCry can be Achieved with SM2 ?

this is just so old new xls.
everyone already knew about this, well everyone except you edit: yes you can do it but you cant do it in the same way. its ALOT easier to do it on the nv40 card than it is on the r3xx cards. this is the main deal with sm3.0, everything can be done quicker and less time consuming than on the earlier sm2.0. you were just alittle off, but that easily happen if you dont read up on things but instead just see a picture and goes "WTF, IT LOOKS THE SAME..NVIDIA SUCKS" ![]() there are plenty of sites out there that explains the difference betwean sm2.0 and sm3.0. and also how displacement mapping works. just do a google and you will find them  edit: OMG my post count have hit 600 how sweet ![]() |

as molle said it is easier to write in sm3 then in sm2. btw ive heard that the far cry team is making a a little expansion for far cry that will support sm3.

“However, thedudemanguy has created a level using Crytek's Sandbox editor that shows off a few basic examples of how offset mapping looks”
I don’t know how thedudemanguy did it. Ask him. I think I posted that Hardocps link in 2 different threads over a month ago. And said this I don’t think HL2 will use PS3.0 or even Far Cry. For Far Cry’s upgrade Far Cry is using “Displacement Mapping a Vertex Shader feature not Pixel Shader.” -- Brent Justice _Hardocp here http://www.gamershell.com/bb_invision/inde...t=5158&hl=nvida

They dont use it now but they will use it in 2005! Its like when u bought your dx9 videocard in 2003 where there were no dx9 games out! But u guys still bought them! And now u can see all the eye candy in FarCry and so on! The same thing will be in 2005 so i think 6800ultra is a better buy
