i seem to be getting really average framerates as games keep getting more visually intense, i have a pentium 4 3.06ghz, Radeon 9600 256ddr, 512ddr, if i were to buy another 512ddr is that going to boost things a bit? any help will be much appreciated cos i wanna be playin these next gen games slick

Yeah good point interman , but a store near my place just stopped selling the 9800XT's (they didn't got any cheaper till the last day they sold em you had 2 pay like 450 euro's )
And then BooM ! they stopped selling the 9800Xt AND now you have 2 pay like 500 Euro's for an X800 :rant: Goddamn :rant:

your processor is pretty shit hot so dont worry bout that, more memory will help definitly, a better card, makes it even better
get more ram to start off with and wait for the price of 9800xt to drop

thanks guys its just that the cash you have to cough up these days for a graphics card is extraordinary i could buy a car with the amount u pay 4 a 9800xt or even 4 months rent! or even 4 ounces of ganja!! :Oo: n e ideas of where to pick em up cheap?

Just try lowering some settings or something if you don't wanna pay too much for upgrading. I'd be uber-happy with that rig. I've got a 1.7GHz Athlon XP, GF4 Ti4200 128MB, 640MB Ram, and I love it. It plays any games that I play real well. If you use AA and AF, those really bottleneck games too. I never use them.

Are you nuts?? What kind of ubermachine do you want people to own?!! Besides,it´s all about keeping your comp. clean and straight,tuning and tweaking tools can help...I myself got an Athlon 1.8 only, witch only(!) 512 Mb DDR and a Radeon 9600 pro, and it runs FarCry perfectly fine and smooth in overall high detail!! This hardwaremania is crap, always owning the fastest machines n´stuff normally shows that people got to few hobbies and lack a normal socialisation! What are you people, some kind of puppets to games distributors??!!If the trend goes on, soon only f...ing millionaires will be gamers, because the companies will only develop for people with ubermachines working with trinary codes ! @Dop3-Fi$H:Let ´em talk, your machine is perfectly fine.
