OK, I have the following problem - I reinstalled (repaired) windows (XP) and then tried to reinstall the drivers for my Radeon 9000 ... the new drivers said I should change my device settings to "Standard VGA adapter" and then try again... My adapter is now "VGA safe"...
I downloaded the ATI driver uninstaller and supposedly wiped the ATI drivers clean - no success... ... I have a sneaking suspicion either milkdudman, or interman answered a simlar question not so long ago, but I can't find it with the search engine... please, help!

hmmm, sounds like something might've gone gone wonkey when you repaired windows xp. it's hard to pinpoint the exact reason, but i'd want to check add/remove software to see if there was any remaining ati software installed. if so remove it and reinstall with the latest driver. you could also check the device manager to see if anything weird pops up in the display adapter part

There is absolutely no Display device in my Device manager and no way to "update driver" in the properties\advanced\adapter panel I get from my desktop... I tried to install a display adapter manually, but windows doesn't let me install anything but ATI display drivers and only up til ATI RAGE SOMETHING... and even when I do install a driver - it isn't working
Isn't there a way to replace the f**king VGASafe with a Standart VGA? I searched the net and I see a lot of people having the same problem... haven't found a solution yet, anyway f**king Microsoft! f**king ATI - next PC I get will have an NVIDIA card and will run Linux!

Greywolf, Have you an Intel Pentium or AMD spec computer?
AMD (32/64) Spec: 1). Go to your motherboard manufacturer's website and download the latest versions of your motherboard all-in-one drivers set, including the VGA GART drivers aswell. Install | Restart and then install your graphics drivers again. If you can't find out where to get your drivers from, you can go to http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=300 and download the package for either 32-bit or 64-bit compatible systems. Intel Pentium Spec: 1). Re-install the inf driver packages from your motherbaord manufacturer. Last, but no means least, your gonna have to re-install windows if the above dont work. |
