I voted for ATI ...but i have Nvidia card ..its not that i dont like Nvidia , its just that ATI can have more reliable cards , even the lower range cards have their "big brothers" options , like x16 AA and stuff.. they perform better rendering and the texture looks much sharper (compared to FX 5 series) mainly because in Nvidia cards the textures are set not to very high ( u can tweak it , but im doubt u get the same image quality as ATI's) which in ATI its a defult .
But Open GL games will run better on Nvidia ( at this time..) cards , and on some games Nvidia will work slightly better then ATI ..on games that designed for Nvidia software ( not all ) .

The good thing a bout Nvidia cards its that you dont realy have to buy a new card when ever a new game hits the market
and im not talking about some 3D "pac-man" ...i mean real demanding games because of the drivers ..which most of you said they are crap ..but i found them very improving ! they bring all the new stuff from the "big boys" ( FX 5/6 ) to the old cards ! and makes them run almost the same , with the same options i recently found out my card is capable of having x8 AA ( which was not installed in the original drivers ) i have a Geforce 4 TI 4200 with 64 MB DDR ram runing on 251/513 hrz core and memory , NONE overcloked ! and every time a new game hits the market my card can compete with it very well! ( HL 2 has been tested on it , and works beautiful) . or you can say that all the new cards are simply an upgrade to an old one :P

In (rather miserable) conclusion :
The ATI cards shiped with all the "good stuff" turned on and modified for best performance ..while Nvidia cards come with more or less the same power , but with some lack of performance , but u can tweak it to get better performance  ..but there are cards that can easily beat an ATI , but like i said ATI can be more reliable .

Note : none of the things i said come to harm Nvidias hardware .

I Agree with you grim! ATI are better cards for texture and etc. But i currently have a Nvidia Geforce 3 Ti200 and even doom3 works perfectly set on the high setting mode at 1024x768 resalution and 85 herts screen refresh rate using the nvidia drivers you can custermize things using them, i have the latest (known to me) Nvidia drivers 61.77 and all the latest games work perfectly. But the only downside is slow loading processess when loading high detail games but over all it works fine! I have also seen a thing on the Nvidia website they are making these cards which when you buy 2 you can link them up together like the old Voodoo cards used to but using a faster transfer cable and obvuasly better graphics. This would increase Video processing Power and also the Memory  i guess thats why Doom3 supports Nvidia more (not sure about the doom3 point but close enough for me).

I agree with you on the high detail processing ( but only on very big games like hmm..lol i cant think of someting that was very slow on my machine) ...my card can run every game just fine , but if it loads too many details it can sink down to a slow motion game ..but that doesent happened to me for a long time now ,and yes the great thing is that you can tweak every bit of info on your card to make it work just like you want it to

About the "new" or should i say "revived" ..from Voodoo technology the NVIDIA SLI mounted on PCI Express motherboard that supports two physical connectors that are capable of having two NVIDIA-based PCI Express graphics cards plugged into them. Joined by the NVIDIA SLI connector, the two graphics cards power one monitor ..and give better performance ,looks , rendering power ...the thing is that the NEW system is operating by rendering the uper screen by card #1 and the lower screen by card #2 ...so its not REALY a SLI technology like in the Voodoo card (R.I.P) which renders every line by a different "card" ( on Voodoo) .

but thats just extra info :P

Doom 3 was made with GeForce 3 cards technology of course they made some new features ..but its still based Gf 3 this and the Open GL drivers that work with this game and Nvidia cards all makes Doom 3 go with NVIDIA .

ANY Made to play on Nvidia game that isn't on OpenGL(just about none) underperforms to the ATi cards(with the exception of the 6800 in far cry)

So DeusEx2, FarCry, Ut2k4, all meant to play on nvidia, all do better on ATi.

Now lets please drop this topic

HL2 is ATI's next gen baby(D3D)
D3 is Nvidias(OpenGL)
