DirectX 9.0c

Jdub22 I haven’t noticed much difference. If you haven’t already-reinstalled 9.0c over your 1st install-this is known to help some things once in awhile,
Also if you have patched Far Cry to 1.2 then I think you’ll see a FPS drop when using Ati.
At least thats what a reviwer said when testing this along wth 9.0c (I don't know if 9.0c had anything to do with it).

As interman said there is more to DX 9.0c than SM3.0.

And there is more to DX than DX 3D.
Doom 3 uses DX not DX 3D.
It’s M$ SM3.0 not Nvidia SM3.0.
I just feel like underlining these facts I’m sure you know.

Ati is more than likely to have SM3.0 capable card(s) by early 2005 and well if stalker isn’t out until then….
I fail to see how 9.0c is useless no matter what card you have-this is progress. We have yet to really see what 9.0c has to offer.

Yes there is more, 9.0c then just SM3.0, I never said otherwise

9.0c(and SM3.0) is only supported through hardware by the Nvidia 6xxx series, kinda of a waste.

Doom 3 uses DX not DX 3D, yes it does... but thats because windowsxp is pretty screwy with launching pure opengl apps, but all the main code in D3 uses pure opengl(as its graphics library)(I was talking about OGL v D3D). DX is just some crap for it to talk with windows, all the rednering code is opengl.

This topic is about getting 9.0c, and unless you have a 6xxx you really have no real reason to be getting it now, thats what I meant, I hope ATi pushs a X900 with 9.0c and SM3.0 support, asap, but at the moment, its not a concen.

Thx for the stalker link, i really haven't followed it much recently, last time i checked out was sometimes late 2k3 I think...(don't quote me on that, im not really sure, but i haven't really followed it sinc ethe title change)

Other then the 6xxx hardware support, there really isn't much ive seen to DX9.0c, as for ATi+FarCry, there was no performance decrease relating to DX9.0c, it was just some patch screw ups, from the benchmark im looking at(THG) I see no decrease)
(also i was incorrect, SM3.0 has better performance then SM2.0, at least on the 6800 platform, source:THG, and wow... this actually lets the 6800 cards take the lead in perforamnce in far cry over the X800 cards..)

Well if 9.0c is giving negative results then it definitely isn’t needed right now.

I like things to be clear for me and others. I sure read a lot about this stuff.

I imagine it won’t be to long before we’re installing games that say we must have 9.0c even if you have a Geforce 3 or whatever card. As you said DX is how windows talks to the game.
I know that’s not now.

If you are running windows then DX isn’t only related to you’re graphics card-we all know this. You seem to think that having the Nvida 6xxx series is the only reason to have 9.0c-This may be true today Hell maybe not even today. I think the x800 makes use of some parts of 9.0c.

I guess I don’t think it’s a waste because “like bug fixes� as interman said. That is the present. I think the words useless and waste (strong words) throw me a bit-like 9.0c is useless or a waste. And you’re saying this very moment it isn’t need on most PC. I agree-I guess I just want to make clear that 9.0c as a whole is not a waste. I got the feeling your dissing it because your bent to Ati and maybe in denial.

LOL I wasn’t even going to get into SM3.0 vs SM2.0 performance that one had me scrathing my head.

Here’s some trivia:
Ati got the Xbox 2 deal and M$ wants SM3.0 so Ati has that much more pressure-to produce the goods.

let's say you're a game developer. you've been using dx9.0b for what it's worth, but there are things that just don't work the way they could, or even should. you download the 9.0c sdk and find that it fixes most of the stuff you were annoyed by. you have no intentions of adding ps3.0, but you still want to compile it using the latest on the market, because it just works better. to run this executable the user won't have to use a 9.0c vidcard, but he will need to have dx9.0c installed.

Bravo, I sorta forgot about the bug fixs(guess microsoft can't windows update their DirectX, can they, so it must be pretty screwy lol )

You mention that your sounds are choppy. I have installed DirectX 9.0c, and now all of the sounds in my games, but only games(not music or anything else), is all screwy. It is scratchy, it jumps and skips, and it is pure gayness. Does anyone have any idea how to help me here? I can't use my new 5.1 speakers because the sound is screwed up. I will also point out that this is only with my speakers, not my USB headset.
