my dad is at work he said he bought xp pro upgrade from xp home for his HP laptop and now it wont boot and he cant even access the bios... what could be the problem?

Ummm.. well if it wont boot then i should imagine it is a problem with the BIOS, considering the actual operating system and boot sequence is started after that. Try inserting the HP recovery CD-ROM, Reboot and wait to see if that launches, if not you will need to contact HP my friend.

it depends a bit on what he/you mean by not booting. if he could access the bios earlier and now he can't that might mean it's something relatively serious. he could check the manual to see if he can get access to the cmos battery, or if there's some other way of resetting the bios.
he could also try making a win98 boot floppy. then doing fdisk /mbr, that is it passes the power on self test that'll delete the master boot record, which might do the trick

Try to format you partition and put it in FAT32 or NTFS system !

none of that helps thanks anyway but ive got a category 4 hurican moving right at me and my city is evacuated so im guna go put all the lawn furniture inside or something.
