40 bucks, top of the line, give you 400 watts in benchmarks, not 350 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-104-970&depa=1

Wow,
I went to the ATI website and downloaded the latest driver. It apparently fixes bugs in a lot of newer games. Doom 3 runs beautifully now. I can play it on high quality with all the good stuff. Thanks for all your help. Bragging rights to whoever said it was a software issue. But thanks to all who replied. |

Thanks man, yeh it seemed like a driver issue, the old verion/windows version are horrible, and when somethig is wrong with GFX cards always check the drivers first for teh card, then the chipset(AGP).
If a lot of games aren't workiing and have the same issue, another reason to check drivers Yey, Props to me for mentioning the drivers first |

I got a 550 watt top of the range power supply for £55!
heres what you need m8! new motherboard like a ASUS 87oNE Deluxe at about £65 a new power supply say 500 watt as they are cheap now! dont try to play games that are too powerful on a dodgy setup! get yourself a new processor id say AMD 2400-3000+ or 2.4ghz-3.2ghz p4 once you have upgraded you can get the most out of your great graphics card and enjoy latest releases is style! to get a pc that will work allright say spend £200-£300 and you should be able to play anything! oh and if your ram is less than 512 upgrade immediately! id get 1gb corsair! it maybe a lot but if you wanna truly enjoy next gen games i suggest you upgrade! ![]() |

Well another confusing thread.
The 9800 has min. system requirements: -Intel® Pentium® 4, AMD® Athlon® or higher with AGP 8X (0.8v), 4X (1.5V) or Universal AGP 3.0 bus configuration (8X/4X) http://mirror.ati.com/products/radeon9800/...0pro/specs.html Maybe a new mobo will do it. The real reason you would need a new mobo is because you need a new CPU. I think you meet the requirements are for a 9700. http://mirror.ati.com/products/radeon9700/...0pro/specs.html Maybe you can return the 9800 for 9700? These are my thoughts. *edit* You say it runs fine now-I have to wonder about how your CPU handles the stress of that card? Oh well I wouldn't do it.

yeah, who ever was saying all this PSU stuff should be banned from giving advice. I have a stock dell PSU it prolly like 220w (not even sure) and it runs my 9800 and my p4 3.06HT just fine. You dont need a 400w for a damn 128 9800. you only need a 300w for the new x800's!

have you still got your old graphics card? if so try that out with all detail turned down in your games,if your not crashing out or screen freezing i would say its a problem with the 9800pro,it sounds identical to the problem i had with a brand new 9800pro most noticably with farcry within the first couple minutes of the game i'd get a screen freeze also most games froze on the menu screen before i could even get in,i try'ed everything from new psu to new cpu"amd2600+to3200+but eventually tracked the problem to the 9800pro,the last thing i thought it would be since it was brand new,GOOD LUCK ANYWAY!
