Ive been trying to run The Sims 2, but after the install it gives me an error message about not being able to find a compatible directx 9.0c drivers for my card. im confused. i downloaded the catalyst 4.9 drivers and even tried reinstalling direct x 9.0c again.

my pc specs..

athlon xp 2800+ 400 fsb
windows xp pro with sp1
radeon 9600 w/256 ram
512 ddr ram
at least 10 gigs free

my pc meets the minimum requirements, but still no luck. i cant find much about this problem anywhere else, so i was hoping someone here would be able to help me out. thanks...

First thing to do is ensure DirectX and the Catalysts are installed properly.

Try running the DirectX Diagnostic Tool to verify the install. To do this click "Start" then "Run" and type dxdiag in the space provided next to the word "Open" and press Enter.

On the first page it will list your DirectX version. You can then click on the tabs along the top of the DirectX Diagnostic Tool to look at other pages and check for problems. Pay close attention to the bottom of each page there will be a box labeled "Notes" What you want to see there is "No problems found."

Secondly, I would wipe any catalyst drivers off the system. Download the tool from this link:

http://www.3dchipset.com/utilities/ati/rem...moval/index.php

Reboot the system and then re-install version 4.9.

If all else fails you may as well give XP Service Pack 2 a try, as it should install it if it thinks you don't have it. (direct x)
