No. You don't have to pay to dl it. You will have to pay before you get the key though

If u hav a 9600 XT or a 9800 XT u wont hav to play for anything... All u need is a good connection to doenload the 3.1 G.B file tht has Hl2 and counter strike: source beta.
Ofcourse u should hav the edition the gives u HL2 free.

Can you use that code from the ATi vid cards pacage and use it in steam? I finished downloading 3.4 gigs. Damn fast connection.
