Okay, so I bought the Sims 2 to play. I'm no computer genius, but I'm pretty darn literate. Installed it at my dad's house with no problem.

Now, I go to my mom's. Expect everything to go peachy. NOT! Instead of Direct X 9.0c installing right from the game, it prompts me to go to the Microsoft website and download it from there. I'm thinking, okay, official Microsoft stuff. Piece o' cake.

Well, this lovely little message pops up. "Cabinet files necessary for installation cannot be trusted." Wtf?! Okay, so, I go to random assortment of computer geeks that I'm acquainted with--who go to their friends, and who go to their friends. Several "sure-fire solutions" later, we try installing again.

....

"Cabinet files necessary for installation cannot be trusted."

Guys, I'm at my wits end here. I'm stuck at home all day long due to getting my wisdom teeth out, and I *just* want to play my new Sims game. Is that so much to ask?! Is it!?

*pout*

Any help would be much appreciated. More than appreciated. It would be loved.

I've tried things like installing XP Service Pack 2 (it wouldn't install) and screwing around with my security settings. Nothing works! I'm so frustrated!

Send anything that you think would make my days of fruitless searching better to babealicious14@msn.com or just post here. (And, no, I'm not 14. That email was created back when I thought I was cool and I'm too lazy to change it.)

Thanks *so* much!

~~Tier ^.^

Already did. All it did was confuse me. I'm fairly sure it had nothing to do with my Video Card.

If you know what a video card is you're not a female!

Trying to be serious, I really have no idea, there should be an EA support phone number on the box, sorry but could not guess any better.

Format? :P

Humm.... look around for a DX cleaner on like Yahoo or Google, it should replace you're old Dx with DX8.0 and should open up a few things...

Look for like : Direct X 9.0 remover or uninstaller

Hope I helped and Welcome to hell!

@CherryMiwako

Looked at a Sims2 forum one solution suggested was this:

Quote:
go to My Computer, press Tools @ the top, click the View tab, under hidden files and folder check "Show hidden files and folders"... then scroll down and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" and press OK to any dialog that comes up. Press ok again.

naviagte to C:\WINDOWS\system32\DirectX and delete a folder called "DXwebsetup" (or something along those terms..) the only folder that should be there is Dinput and no other files.. so basically delete anything except Dinput folder..

now do the first step again but check the two that i told you to uncheck SO YOU DONT IDIOTICALLY MESS UP ANYTHING!

then reinstall directX again, and it should work.
So I haven“t tested this no garantee, but maybe it removes the corrupted cabinets in the DXwebsetup folder,
if there“s one on your mothers PC. ;)

I have 9.0b...I think. I just don't want to mess up this computer--seeing my own is a piece of crap and I'm using my mother's since it's butt-stinkin' fast.

Do y'all think that there's maybe something like a spyware or some watchdog not letting me upgrade my Direct X? Or is there an option I can turn on or off?

And Tier got the same message again.

Y'all know how many stinkin' times I've had to read that damned error message? A lot!
