Pass the check for CS source?

I built my computer with my brother about 3 years ago. AMD athalon 2.0 ghz (realllly needs updating. It was mid ranged when we bought it.) Geforce4 TI4200 (upgrading to a 6800 for xmas for these newer games), 512 megs of ddr ram (upgrade to a gig eventually), annnnd 205 gigs of harddrive space. My pride and joy. I'll be installing stuff for the next 3 years and not run out.

Only problem is with any game I play the side panel has to be off and a floor fan needs to be blowing on it or it starts to overheat. full sized tower too. Hmm have to figure that one out.

Windows XP runs well on 256mb of RAM, so I don't know where the 512 bullshit comes from. Jesus, PC geeks or what. And as for the frames per second thing, anything is playable over 30. I couldn't give a f**k as long as it's playable. You hear all these freaks bang on about "it's shit if it's not above 70 or 90 fps." Christ. Anyway, Half-Life 2 is a Direct X heavy game, so you'll need a good DX card. I can run Doom 3 better than Far Cry on my FX5200, but that's because of the difrerent code or something that the games use. I'm no expert and nor do I want to be. So long as I can play DOD: source, I'm happy! That's a fun game. CS just has too many freaks and geeks playing it 24 f**king 7 which means you've no chance as a beginer at it. You get stiffed with impossible shots almost straight away. Boring!

DoD is just the same.


over 30? maybe... i was playing CoD at 30-40 on my old computer... low settings.. uhh.. its decent.. but at 125 its just a lot more fun(cod/quake trick FPS, ill push 300 if i need to, but thats not needed)

It runs but I don't know if I would say it runs well.

Adding another 256 will cost you next to nothing and the performance boost will be noticable. Probably more than any one thing you could add for that price.

yeh making the 512 jump is to help u a lot, going over that really won't. You won't really "notice" it, maybe ull score a few more points in benchmarks, but u won't notice it.

if have any 2 sticks of indenticle ram does it automaticaly run in dual chanel mode, or do i have to buy the dual channel kits

yes as long as u have it in two different channels............
