MC1942

Please have pity on me...I'm an old fart and a screwup to boot! Here's the straight poop...I killed my bud's BF1942/MC1942 installation somehow. I installed BF1942 for him (on win98)...all the way through to Secret Weapons...all new and store-bought...no copies. We've played only in single player, so there's no online/multiplayer help needed.
It worked just fine, but the realism sukt. Then we discovered Merciless Creations! I installed v4.1.4 and beat my brains out to get it to work over a year ago. With all the different mods out there and all the different ways modders described what to do...it just didn't make sense. Everthing seemed to work fine and looked great, but crashed to desktop in every game with planes...can't imagine why. I remember editing an init.con and having that fix it...can't remember why I did what I did. Everything worked except Operation_Barbarossa, which ran for 2-5 minutes and then crashed to desktop...regardless of what was being done (totally random).
Here's how I kilt the installation: I went online to see if I could find something that would help. I saw a map for Barbarossa and textures for it too as two different downloads. I did exactly what their readme's directed and BAM...It won't startup at all...just the initial Battlefield 1942 box, which disappears...it never even gets to the black screen. I tried removing the map rfa it installed and the textures+rfa that were installed, but it just won't work!! I can NOT figure out what is wrong...it makes absolutely No Sense...Arrrrgh! :rant:
I thought I'd be helping him out (he was gone for a week...back on thursday 10/14) and now I've skrewd the pooch! He won't be p/o at me, but I don't even know if I can recreate the installation. My question (more of a plead than question) is...can I copy part of someone else's installation (in any way) that WORKS...over my install...to repair and hopefully dramatically improve the overall install??
