 I had the same problem almost through out the game, I tried a clean install of XP and it helped a little with the graphics end. But when I tried enabling surround sound it crashed and rebooted my system. I have an SB Audigy 2ZS Platinum with the Creative Insipre T7700 7.1 surround speakers so I really wanted the surround sound. I just found on the Creative web site today new EAX4 drivers for my sound card and that seems to have fixed it. The sound is my only complaint about Doom 3, I know Id has had issues with creative in the past, but it would have made things easier if they had written in the sound blaster api. By the way Doom 3 will not detect surround sound on a system that has anything other than "surround sound" selected in the advanced tab of the speaker section of sounds and audio devices in the control panel. I have to make sure it is set to that everytime I start the game because for some reason it resets to 7.1 surround home theater if I reboot. Despite the problems I finished the game and am now playing it on the nightmare level. You must finish this game, you will be pleasently surprised when you get to the final boss. Excellent finishing level and cut scene.

Doom 3 was specifically made for Geforce users (optiomised for 6800 GT). Ppl who r using ATi cards are experiencing crashes, sys rebooting, hang of the game .. So u better download a patch fixing tht erroe.
Doom 3 also runs on a Geforce 2 MX 200/400 32 MB card. I played it on my old sys hav this card at lowest graphics (Even bumps and other advanced options turned off) with some tweaks also. I was getting abut 18 FPS and I was able to play.

Well, ive installed directx9c, im now running sound on an audigy2nx with latest drivers. ALL drivers on the pc are the latest....and...HURRAY! its stopped kicking me out at random times.

now its moved on to just freezing. that bit at the start where ur coming back after seeing that scientist and witnessing the beginning of quite literally all hell breaking lose. on the way back to marine hq i have to press the console to get the retractable sectioned bridge thingy down. it always freezes there. sounds still running, game screen frozen, but able to move the cursor. i try c/a/d but it just gives egg timer for a second then does nothing. nothing else responds either.

hmmmmmm

I got a ATi card and havn't got a crash in D3 so far you PRG Expert. Actually D3 is one of the bugfree games that became very seldom in the last couple of years.
D3 is made for OpenGL and Nvidea runs better with it, say gets a couple of FPS more out of D3 but ATi can run the game perfectly.
