Need Help

I'm sorry to ask this..I did look around about others problems with the same issue but somehow they are all a bit different...So here goes...

I loaded The Sims 2 and when my kids go to play it we get the following message...Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics in the system! Please make sure you have a DriectX 9.0c compatable graphics adapter and have intsalled the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate.

I have the HP Pavilion 6830 (please be nice this is my 6 and 10 year olds system to tear up).....
I also went into the Display Divice and this is what it said, Name: Intel ® 82810 Graphics Controller.
I have also downloaded DirectX 9.0c...soo why is it not being recognized?
I am so computer clueless and yes I'm a chick! I would ask my husband but he is in the middle of the ocean on a submergent so he can't help me. My kids are biting at my heels! Help please!

Thanks, I have to giggle at the "uh"....OK so this system is icky...Am I going to need to buy a better card? I guess I'll have to wait until the man comes home after all....I have the game loaded on my computer (heck I wanna play too) I just didn't want everyone fighting over my laptop....Gerrrrr

but don't bother upgrading that comp anyway, it's just a waste of money. buy a new one. (truth hurts.)

your specs

and Sims 2 needs:

Code:

Windows 98, 2000, ME, or XP
 
256MB of RAM
 
A graphics card on the supported graphics card list (preferably one with T&L support)
 
CPU: 800MHz Pentium 3 or equivalent (if you have a graphics card which supports T&L). Those who do not have a graphics card which supports T&L will need a 2.0GHz processor.
 
At least 3.5Gb of hard drive space.
 
Monitor Resolution: 800x600 minimum, 1024x768 recommended. Higher resolutions available.
 
Keyboard, mouse, speakers 
Below is the current list of graphics cards supported by The Sims 2:

ATI RadeonTM series  
NvidiaÂ® QuadroTM series  
NvidiaÂ® Geforce series (GeForce2 and better) 
[B]IntelÂ® Extreme Graphics (non-T&L; requires 2.0 GHz processor) 
82845, 82865, 82915 [/B]

that means for your card you would need a processor with 2000 mhz. :/

yes the man is right. and its not being harsh at the end of the day. sometimes value for money comes in a complete replacement where out of date components are concerned. there's some good systems at reasonable prices out there these days and you aren't going to risk voiding warranties or having hardware incompatibility issues.

Akherousin, no hurting here! I have a laptop that supports the game, I just didn't want the kids on it. Looks like I'll be doing some computer shopping....
