I have recently updated my computer, thats right I've gone and got me a GeForce 6800GT, which is gr8 because it now means I can run games like CoD with the graphics all the way to the max! Or at least I should be able to shouldn't I? You see the problem is that if I try and change any of the graphics or sound settings when I click apply the computer seems to freeze and the only was to get out of it is the old three fingered salute (Ctrl, Alt, Del) then to end process on the games exe file, of course this means that none of the settings have been changed.

The same thing happens when I try and exit the game, this seems to be happening on games that are running on the Q3 engine (Doom 3 also) so my train of thourght was that is could be an issue with that but I really dont know. I have all the latest drivers DX9.0C and 61.77nVidia drivers, I'm running win XP Pro with all the latest updates too. Oh and heres my Spec:

P4 1.8
512DDR 266Mhz
GeForce 6800GT
120Gb HDD

Some one plz just gimme a pointer cus I'm all out of ideas! :Oo:

Try to download the latest Nvidia drivers. That might help.

Hmm, I've a memory like a goldfish. You have the latest drivers you say. Well, I'm f**ked if I know, but I here a lot of talk about certain processors not being capable enough for the latest graphics chips. I havn't a clue, but I'm sure it's something stupid and easily sorted.

61.77 are the latest aren't they? :bucky!:

You see the strange thing is that the games run fine with no problems, even Doom 3 is running ok on its default settings. I just can't change them at all! Luckly CoD detects your graphics settings for you and sets then all to almost Max for me before the game loads so it still looks and runs fine, I just cant change anything or exit the game correctly which is just anoying.

Well good news guys it seems after digging around this forum looking for someone with a similar problem I ve come up with the solution! Seems that the 61.77nVidia were the problem. On a different thread I got word that there were more upto date drivers available from Guru3D.com These being 66.81 WHQL drivers. According to the notes about them: "These drivers are intended for the the Series 6 GPU's (GeForce 6200/6600/6800)."

I have installed these and BINGO! Problem solved.

Hello

Well Nvidia don't seem to be updating there site, but are making sure there other card makers are getting the latest drivers mine is 66.72 WHQL, and there international drivers are not international since they don't support PAL format and only support NTSC. If if you set it to PAL in the drivers it stays in NTSC, my tv jumps up and down, since my tv can only handle SECAM and PAL, not NTSC and also it is in black and white, this NTSC standard is crap.

Regards

Andrew
