ATi is now the worlds largest producer of Standalone graphics cards. (Intel still dominates the overall GfX chipset market)

"According to sources, the report estimates Nvidia's total market share for standalone graphics chips in Q3 of 2004 at 37 percent, down from 50 percent a year earlier. Rival ATI was able profit from this situation, increasing its share in this segment from 45 percent to now 59 percent. "

its around the net.. this segment is from tomshardware

Because ATi is simply better. I would change my mind in a heartbeat if nVidia actually made cards that were better, but that is not the case. I used to like nVidia more and now I like ATi. Who knows what I might like more in 1-4 years?

ATI is having a real problem supplying cards at this point. A LOT of places are having real problems getting some of their high end cards.

These press releases are pretty much just fluff anyway, they're usually far behind the times in regards to current technology.

also after doing some research:

Those numbers are from before the x800/6800 lines came out.

The headline is a little misleading. ATI has taken the lead in certain markets, and in general has taken the lead over Nvidia. But not the lead in the total graphics market.

Q3 - Mercury Research report - Sept 30
Totall mkt. share:
Intel - 39% (+1%)
ATi - 27% (+4)
nVidia - 15% (-8)

Desktop discrete:
ATi - 55% (+17)
nVidia - 42% (-16)

Notebook discrete:
ATi - 72% (overall - integrated & discrete - 47%)
nV - 22%

And no, I can't link the source because Mercury Research requires an account. Usually a corporate one.

And what part of that says ATi Doesn't have the lead? if ur talking about total market share... read what I posted..

ATi dominates the notebook powerhouses though.
9800 Mobility> 5950 DESKTOP in some cases.(farcry i think is one)

ATi is having issues with the X800XT because they never expected the demand.. they are perfectly happy with how its going. But it would be unfair to put the blame on ATi. NVidia is having the same situation with their 6800Us. and they are now denying the 6800U EE ever existed. Interesting.

as for X800 Pro vs 6800 GT.. why bother.. 6800GT has a (however minor) lead in about 60% of the cases.
ATi needs to focus on their notebook, x800xt, and x700 production(and set the x700 on AGP dammit), those are the only places where they are worth buying(well besides PCIX.. they dominate that also.. but the AGP end is lacking)
