I have been an Nvidia enthusiast for many years however it i have recently bought a Radeon XT 800 XT PE for my PC. My main grudge is that I was caught out by buying a Ge-Force 5600 and felt completely ripped off. I realise that now this is no longer a good card at the time it was hailed as the next -gen and Direct X9 ready. Still if anyone has ever tried to run any game that relys on heavy pixel shaders and light and shadowing then it suddenly dawns on you how poorly the chip performs. As a result any increase in image quality destroyed framerates on this card.

I realise now that things are different with the 6800 series but a friend of mine has had various Radeons and the performance and across the range has been good, even with AA turned up. However as a gamer I am interested in image quality as much as raw FPS grunt.

I wonder how many other people felt cheated buy the performance of mid-range cards and now are affilliates of ATI?

Yeah right, well the 5600 was never a good card and who ever told you that deserves a bitch slap. The 5600 has always been, even from release, an entry-level product and was obviously never designed for high-end gaming, i.e. Hi-Res, Ps2.0, AA and AF... It is meant for people who play a few games, but not the latest stuff... As for the switch to ATI being better, well you have just purchased a brand new x800 XT PE so it obviously should perform a hell of a lot better than an entry level board from 18 months ago... :bucky!:

agreed the 5600 was and is a crap card, the XT PE is like a monster truck and that 5600 is just a little volkswagen.

nvidia never misled anyone, you misled yourself into thinking it was a awesome card.

you should have read reviews. and then read some more.
the 9700 pro was and still is a kick ass card.

but that XT PE is just insanely expensive. and not worth all that money.

i am not a fan of any card, but go with whats the bet card out there, currently i have a 9800 XT in one machine and a BFG 6800 GT OC in my main machine.

for the money and performance you could have saved yourself 100+ bucks and got the 6800 GT then overclocked it to 6800 Ultra.

and just so you understand a little about the differences of ati and nvidia.

sure they are both GREAT cards and everyone just screams cuz the ati does better AA and AF, and its true it does.

but if ANYONE thinks that cames running 1280.1024 and high needs AA and AF then those people need to have their eyes examined, its been said year after year card after card, running 1280x1024 and higher there is no need for antialaising and anistropic filtering. the resolution is already so high its just not needed. and when you do use it, the performance hit is so large,, blah its just not worth it.

so....

in the end you need to read reviews and talk to people all over the net in forums.. but also look at your own hardware.
if your not running a higher end amd 64 system then your limiting the power of that XT PE you have. im not sure what your cpu and mobo and what type of ram you have and how fast your hard drives are.
but if your not running the biggest and best thats out there then your causing your video performance to bottleneck.

so buying a new video card will get you better performance but coupled along with that is buying other new hardware so the video card operates properly.

I fail to see how it was Nvidia's fault for you not bother to research what it is that you're buying.

It would be like buying a Dodge Neon and expecting Ferrari performance just because both have 4 wheels.

 [color=blue]hey everyone , this is my first post , and i too have been screwed by nvidia , i had a 5600, a 9600 , and now a 9800 pro , and i have to say that the last ones are great , i got no complaints ,but the fx 5600 was really weak and was showing a lot of errors especially in gta and nfs underground(probably from the card`s memory , wich was heating really bad , without oc.)

You bought a mid-range product and your mad? Do your homework more often. Example if you would have done your homework you would know that the geforce 6800 ultra has a slight performance gain over the x800xtpe and you also might know that the 6800 gt is overclockable to ultra in most cases without even modding the stock cooler. So your fired. TRY READING MORE REVIEWS IN THE FUTURE BEFORE YOU BUY PRODUCTS. :dennis:
