ok it went through the download, i checked the box launch when ready. it launched but gets stuck on the loading screen. i checked the properties in steam and it says STATUS: Requires Update. Amount acquired 60%. how do i get the rest? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGH.

if steam is working then in your tray you'll see the steam icon but it will look like it has little dots in it.. ie: not quite the same as the steam icon itself. if you right click the steam tray icon you should see a monitor menu option. you can select that and it will tell you how fast you are downloading.

their servers are taking a beating so it make take a while to update all that stuff.

Just wait, you and about a billion other people around the world are trying the same thing, to download HL2 from Steam. Luckly its only 4 - 7 GBs of data so it sould only take a couple of days to complete.

Thanks for sandpapering it up for the rest of us BTW. :thumbup:
