Sorry...HL2 prob!

Ok so after the headache of getting the game installed and registered to my supprise the game runs sooo smooth:Well it would do but keeps sticking/pausing for a second or so and has just crashed on me?
The thing i dont get is when its not all to often sticking it runs beautiful so its not that i need to turn any options off"default high,1024/768"which i've try'ed anyway but to no effect.
On searching the net i rolled upon ATI's new 4.12beta hoping this would fix my prob i dl'ed/installed it but still the same f***ing thing.
Has ne1 else had/having this prob if so what do i do short off returning the game as how it is,its not worth playing

shame.
Any idea's?

It's possible that it's related to the sound. I was getting some strange sound hicccups but when I updated my sound drivers they went away.
