Is this a good deal on this comp?

Sup guys, this dude is selling his old comp on a local message board here in AZ. Just wanted to get your guys opinion on it, I've never had a fast gaming computer so I was thinking of buying this one.. here's what he is selling...

System is as follows:

AMD 1.3 Ghz Athlon Processor
620 (512+215) PC2100 Ram
128MB GeForce4 4600 Ti

It's basically an old Compaq computer that has a few upgrades to it. It's a complete box, floppy, with a RJ45 capable networking card. I used it for gaming for a while up until the hard drive went out. I use it as an excuse to build a new system for myself.

NEEDS:

Hard Drive

I looked around and the same hard drive can be had for 30ish bucks.

ASKING:

230 FIRM

Is that a good deal or what?

You won't last long with this processor. It's just too slow for a gaming puter.
i.e. the minimun for HL2 is a 1.2 ghz processor. However, processors are cheap.
I consider this buy as 'wasting money' if you want to play games on it for the nexr year.
It's outdated by 2 years now. Don't buy if you really want to play games. Really.

Ok, that comp sounds not so good. I might just upgrade my system, here is what I have, lemme know what I need to upgrade K?....

192 MB of ram
windows XP
cpu = 1044 athlon
video card is a 5600Nvidia
and I have a 19 gig harddrive
32X cd drive

what do I need to upgrade? I cant take my games up from the minimum resolution level or they crash or are too slow to play, :rant:

I think a minimum for gaming nowadays is something like that:

CPU: AMD Athlon64 2800+ / P4 2.8ghz or better
Ram: 512 mb ddr or more (better more)
VideoCard: ATI Radeon 9600 pro / nvidia GeForce 6600 GT or better
HDD: 80 GB or more

If you can't or won't afford this, you probably should buy a gaming console (Xbox, PS2, Gamecube).

I don't know about all of that. I myself think that just about any CPU about 2ghz or better would be fine. Everything else seems about right. As for video cards, if you have a dx 8.1 card. It'll last just a little longer. anything less would need an upgrade obviously to a dx9.

Think it's time to cut your losses mate and go for a new system. :thumbup:

learn how to build a computer (its easier than installing the OS) and buy the parts. You can get a top of the line PC for 400+ bucks, compared to that crappy rig you could buy from your friend.
