Half life 2 cd key?

Ok so I recieved half life 2 today and installed all 5 disks. Then steam asks me for a cd key so I look on the box..nothing, on the reference card...same. I looked everywhere and I can't find it! am I blind? Is there some bit of paper I'm missing? This is really frustrating cus I really wanna play it.

the paper sleave that disc one came in , look on back of that.........

looks like you got a returned copy of HL2. return it for a new one.

return the game and keep the key and say you didn't get one...this way you got two...hrhrhr....
