I'm working on Hamlet right now :nxs:. This play sucks but I need your guy's help, is Hamlet a tragic hero? Tell me what you think :bucky!: .

I don't think he was a hero nor tragic. Simply the whole story is tragic I think.

Beyond semantics of the words hero and tragic
think of it like a formula.

Hamlet>Protagonist>Hero-Hamlet was brave, daring, intelligent…
If his death is in fact the tragedy-
If Hamlet killed Claudius earlier he could have avoided death (free will).
He was a procrastinator (weakness-which leads to tragic).
Of course being haunted and knowing deeds of uncle & mother, dead parents, and dead Ophelia are tragic things.
The audience relates;
HAMLET:
Thrift, thrift, Horatio! the funeral baked meats
Did coldly furnish forth the marriage tables.
Would I had met my dearest foe in heaven
Or ever I had seen that day, Horatio!
My father!--methinks I see my father.

Thanx for your help. One more thing, Did Hamlet postpone his revenge out of weakness or out of strength?

Dude that is not an easy question.

If you go by my procrastinator thought you could argue for weakness.
Only Hamlet was not sure if he was seeing a real ghost or devil or imagining it all.
He had to be sure-so he put on the play.

It has been many years for me and I would have to reread a couple of acts to really say what I think. If I find the time I might do so after all it is a good question.
Either way could be well argued it you back it up right.
