Can any 1 help i got a

3500 64-bit (939) winchester
a8v rev2 deluxe mobo bios 1007
512 corsair pro ram
xfx gefroce 6800 gt 256mb
480 enermax psu

all sounds fine but when i first purchsed it i couldent get the computer to boot
so i took it to the shop and they said i would need a bios update so they done all that the other problem then was i
could only use my corsair pro ram in the third slot on my board any other slot and the computer would not boot.

any help on the matter the shop told my to get cruical ram so thats what im going to do next
but i would like to no if any 1 else has had this problem or no how to fix it.

every thing works fine so it must be ram issues
but it does say that u will need a bios update to get a winchester core to run on an a8v mobo
and that should also solve the ram problem but it doesent.

Take a look at the RAM Compatibility List at Asus for this Mainboard. Maybe it only accepts 2 or 2.5C Rams.

Sound's like a similar problem to my own with the A8v i had a gig 2x512 3200+corsair twinx 3,3,3,8 which turned out was'nt on corsair's compatability list and would'nt boot with a single stick but did using a pair.
I was lucky enough to swap that ram for 2x512 twinx ddr500 which IS on corsair's compatability list but still would'nt boot
using a single stick.
I'm pretty sure your ram is compatable check for yourself http://compatible.corsairmemory.com/ maybe it's a problem with the A8v when running a single stick of corsair?
Also bios 1008"which im using" and 1009.04 beta is on the asus website for dl they may be worth a shot?
Good luck anyway!

AMD 3500+ "winchester"
A8V Deluxe bios 1008,
1 Gig corsair twinx ddr500 3,4,4,8 ran as ddr400 2.5,3,3,5
36Gig WD Raptor,
80Gig Diamondmax plus9,
Radeon 9800 pro,
Enermax Noistaker 470watt.

Hold on a minute check this GH thread from ark-angel 2 day's ago on 9/12/04 http://forums.gamershell.com/index.php?act...=ST&f=19&t=9276 eye his system spec and you'll find the cruical ram
"the shop owner told him to get and what he's is purchasing next"..is in his spec?

What's the point in wasting peep's time ark-angel?

Im fairly new to this forum myself but like most there's no room for time wasting teahatter's!

BTW..me think's i can smell a serial spammer

yeah its because of the improved Memory controller on the 90 nanometer chips... i would check the list like was already mentioned tomaek sure you dont have a stick of ram taht simply wont work right... then when i find out my ram sitn onthe list i would reflash the bios.. maybe even try to find an Uber bios if there is one.

I'm still using the same ac97 sound driver's that came on the mobo cd they are the latest one's listed on asus website http://www.asus.it/support/download/item.a...Deluxe&Type=All 6 month old?
They've done the trick for me*upto now*plus via website's a bit of a nightmare to find the right one's :bucky!:
I guess to find the latest realtek ac97 sound driver for the av8 the realtek homepage may be a good place to start which i've not yet done myself..will do later.
As for the 1009.04beta bios it's was only 8 day's old before asus posted the 1009.05beta?so i reckon you done the right thing with the 1008
