I have Call of Duty and Rainbow six 3: Raven-Shield installed, however, when I try to play the game the computer freezes before I reach the main minu. The screen has no messages only vertical lines of color. I presently am using ATI's AIW 9800 Pro with 128 Mb, ATI catalyst 4.12, DirectX 9.0c, Windows XP Professional, Audigy 2zs sound card, Intel Pentium 4 2.6 Ghz and 1 GB of Ram.
Ghost Recon and Medal of Honor run perfectly Can anyone offer some assistance here. I would love to play these games. |

Hmm.....smth like that could happen if you oc'd that card or got the agp voltage wrong.
But first try patching those games and changing drivers (latest are not always the best)

does this happen in all games?
if it does then I'm reasonably sure the cooler on your vidcard isn't seated properly. changing the agp voltage doesn't help you at all because it affects the bus and not the card itself, but voltmodding the core and/or ram on the card might introduce artifacts like the ones you mentioned.

yup, i think i agree with interman, cuz i bought my new pc in september, and after getting all the things up and running my screen just told me 'no video input' after it was turned on.... i was planning to trade the computer with the retailer, till i asked a friend of mine. he said what kind of sound my pc made when i started up. 3 beeps. he said my vidcard wasn't in the socket properly. without breaking the warranty seal (a tie-wrap) i managed to push the card into its place again. it worked. not that it should help you, but just a thought.
about the werid stripes, i had that on my old pc sometimes. rarely. dunno but never fixed it. maybe its a good thing to look into the hardware and check if EVERYTHING is properly connected. it helps. while your're at it, blow some dust you can find of it. that helps too :P

Interman,
Thanks for the comments. It does not do this on all games only the two I mentioned. I have not attempted any modifications on the cards. I feel certain that everything was seated correctly. |

;) Well after much flustration I finally broke down and called the ATI tech service. After trying severall things he concluded that it was the card. I have mailed it back for replacement or repair. In the meantime I purchased a Radeon 9200 SE from Compusa. All games are working great. I do feel that there was probably a heat issue also. Is there a cooling device that is a PCI card that I could insert below the AGP slot.
Thanks for the suggestions and feel sure this has been resolved |
