Sorry mate, looks like you're gonna have to stick with single channel RAM unless you buy another motherboard! Theres no problem buying dual channel RAM for your mobo, but it just wont work in dual channel mode ie not quite as fast. But it does support DDR400 tho so I dont think yu'll miss the extra speed.

You already have 512mb of DDR400 (PC3200), so if you really wanna upgrade the RAM get another stick of the same. I wouldnt recommend spending huge amounts on RAM unless your planning on upgrading the mobo as well.

Yeah, Dual Channel isn't such a big difference. You should be set with another stick of the same ram. Choupolo is right.

do you tell me Dual Channel is only a MODE for you RAM, not how many Slots/expansions i have?

i honestly don't get your reply. ill explain:

'if you really wanna upgrade the RAM get another stick of the same.'

how would i be upgrading my system if i have a confirmed report of the most helpfull board members that i only have 1 slot?

btw, if i wanna upgrade my mobo, i need to tear the system apart don't i?

Hehe, yea Dual Channel is a 'mode' on the mobo which lets two sticks of dual channel RAM work together to make them faster. Usually they work separately. Only certain mobo chipsets support this feature, and the SiS 648FX chipset unfortunately doesn't. But as we said the speed increase of this feature isnt as drastic as say a gfx card upgrade for the same money. (Sry, didnt notice you already had a 9600XT!)

Your board actually has 3 slots (which all work separately). And you have 1 stick of 512 RAM in one of these slots at the moment which is what is showing up on the Everest thingymajig. Sorry if that was a bit unclear before.

And yea upgrading the mobo will involve taking your machine apart in any way you deem fit. (maybe avoiding tearage..)

aaalll right!! thanks dude! i hoped you say that! now errr....lets say i wanna get the TwinX1024-3200XLPRO (2 times 512 MB-RAM...don't worry, i now a place where they sell it really cheap) ....
can i(or is it safe to) take the current ram out of its slot and replace them with those two or do i have to let that one stay in its place, and just plug them both in the other 2 slots?
does this still mean my computer gets faster, or does this mean i have to manually switch them, like, via the BIOS or something to tell which i want to work? and does it mean they work together?

Hmm, you can do either, replace the current RAM, or plug em all in! 1.5Gb of RAM is a little excessive, yu probably wont need that much. Ive never needed more than 1Gb running 'everything' at the same time.

The speed increase will be disappointing i guarantee, and will only mean yu can run more programs at the same time. The RAM wont work together cos the mobo wont let them.

Your BIOS should automatically configure the RAM, so you wont have to set anything manually.

I spent loads replacing a stick of 512 DDR400 to 2x512 dual channel DDR400 on a dual channel mobo, and I hardly noticed any speed increase. Was only worth it to play games and listen to Windows Media Player at the same time (while maybe burning a CD)!
