Norton Problems.

Hey, i have a virus on my computer and i downloaded norton 2005 15 day trial off the symantec website but when i try and install it i get a " inistops.dat file " error, and before that i get a " you have other anti virus installed on your computor ". I have downloaded the AVG trial awhile ago but i uninstalled that and deleted the registry and before i downloaded the AVG trial i had a norton 2004 trial, now this is what i thinks causing the problem, i try and uninstall it but it gives me the inistops.dat error, but theres no way of getting rid of it off my pc, i've looked through the registry and deleted anything norton related but it comes back since its installed. Any suggestions apart from format?.

EDIT** My system is taking ages to open folders and internet explorer so i'm just guessing its a virus, i just did a scan with avg anti virus and 3 virus's came up and some trojans and it fixed 11 and god knows what happened to the other lot, avg wasn't very imformative.

Try Ad-aware.

lol, i'm not thick. I've been scanning this bloody system all day and deleted all this crap yet its still playing up, its so strange because yesturday it was fine, i'm not risking doing a system restore incase it brings the virus with it. :nxs: :nxs: :nxs:

Have you turned off System restore before deleting any traces of the viruses?

If you reboot after deleting a virus, alot of the time it has made a copy in your system restore so it will just re appear.

Also, delete any virus files in SAFE mode, it's generally a good method :thumbup:

just a couple of thoughts, good luck :thumbup:

Search for McAffe Stinger, should help you out a bit too.
And for gods sake, delete that norton crap. Just slowing down your system and doesn't help at all.
