Lately I've been having major probs with my radeon 9800 pro 256 mb. During gameplay for any given title, it could either blue screen and give me a memory dump, or do what its been doing frequently as of late which is have a VPU Failure or something. The game would freeze, say midplay in CoD, and then sit for about 5 seconds, then a close program box would pop-up followed by a nasty error message saying I have to have a VPU Recovery or something.
Could this be my gpu overheating perhaps? I have a huge thermaltake with 5+ case fans... I must have gotten this error three times today alone, and garbled screen comes along with it. Any ideas? |

Yes, overheating is most probably the problem. Have you checked if the heatsink sits (still) properly on the chip? (Mine fell away once and the GPU burned out
)Although if you don't have any artifacts otherwise, the problem could be occured by something different. I guess the card worked fine the other time? How old is it?

What card was that? Haven't seen them mounted otherwise than with plastic "legs" on decent cards for centuries...
