please help, I downloaded vietcong multiplayer demo, unzipped it and don't know how to start playing

I dont think that was his problem, but in your case; are you behind a firewall / NAT ?

have you also downloaded the patch (0.97 i think)
the demos very good...apart from the team killers and flyers
