First of this aint no bragging post im seriously in 2 minds about what to buy im asking for any sensible advice, now thats out the way heres my dilemma.
I've just sold my asus a8v deluxe rev1 and bought a msi k8n neo2 platinum however i wasn't to keen on the msi. Their wasn't anything physically wrong with the the msi,i just felt the a8v was a better quality board from gaming apps, every day tasks,to overall build quality. so within a month i sold the msi and am planning on buying a a8v rev2. Now this leave's me motherboard'less so i get the idea, why don't i go for a full'ish pc upgrade and sell my 3500+ to buy a 4000+"which i've done"but this still leaves me without a mobo. Now heres my dilemma,im now being drawn from the a8v rev2 towards the a8n-sli deluxe as the prices are very similar. If im about to spend this amount of coin i figure its the best time to buy pci express_but_ i own a 1 and half month old gigabyte x800xt pe? Obviously the mobo i want requires nvidia grfx card,i wont have a problem selling my x800xt pe but this will only leave me enough funds to buy a 6800gt which is regarded as a lesser card"i wouldn't know as i've never owned nvidia" My plan is to to buy another 6800gt whenever i get the funds however long it may be....believe me when i say i'll be pennyless for a long while after this upgrade, which is why i want to get it right. So what would you do?I have a amd 4000+ still in the box,im writing this on a 750mhz athlon i could have the a8v rev2 by saturday and be up and running again saturday night. However if i go the a8n route it'll be at least a week before i sell my x800xt pe,order the 6800gt and await delivery. Do you think i should hold back on sli and keep the x800xt pe buy a a8v rev2 or be patient and buy the a8n-sli deluxe. Another thing thats kinda nagging me is,would i see a noticeable drop in performance going from a x800xt pe to a 6800gt also whats the difference between the a8n-sli and the a8n-sli deluxe as the specs are identical on my retailers website except the deluxe has dual gb lan,if thats the only difference and i decide to buy the a8n sli deluxe i'll save £25 on the none deluxe version. Thanks"i think"in advance. |

IMHO, i would stick with the X800 and get the Non SLI board, the PCI-E/SLI is still very expensive for what it is
I would wait around for a while(1yr) as the kit will get better and cheaper. The card you have at the moment is a good one, and will run anything you throw at it at the moment, so i would stick with it and then save up over the next year to buy some serious PCI-E/SLI kittage ![]() |

Its not much of the retail price so prob won't sell,if it does then i need a new mobo anyway so i guess there's no harm buying pci-e now. On the other hand im sick of waiting to give my new proc a test drive,i might log onto ebay and buy the x800xt pe of myself At least that way i can be up and running with a a8v rev2 by tuesday,,,,,,we'll see :bucky!: |

Ive read tons of reviews on the new SLI mobos and the graphics cards. Most all articles say that there is a noticeable performance increase only when you run extremely demanding games on resolutions higher than 1600x1200. If you plan on playing the newest games on a resolution like that, then by all means get the SLI mobo and save up for 2 6800gt's, but if you plan to play all of the newest games on highest settings on a res of 1600x1200 and below, you might as well keep your current configuration. With the x800xtpe your computer will be faster than 1 6800gt, but if you get 2 6800gt's you might only see an increase if you run it on a high rez. Either route you go, its not like one computer will outlast the other because one has SLI and one doesn't, its just a matter of preference.

Higher than 1600x1200? I read on multiple sites that to get max performance gain,
the rez should be 1600x1200 and AA and AF should to their highest settings. which almost doubles performance on a single gfx card at 1600x1200 with maxed out AA and AF settings. I guess the main main thing is the AA and AF settings from what I have read, but as wierd as it is higher frame rates result with higher rezs. As far as the newest game thing goes i think some older ones are supported, but that depends on the SLi game profile with in the driver. but i agree with Deadly Assassin, the technology is quite $$$, not only that but tech is very new ( this form of SLi any way). so i would say wait it out and see what is to come. |

I never said that it didn't support old games, I was suggesting that if he were only to play newer games or next generation games he should keep his configuration. If he wants to play next gen games he should make the decision based on which he personally prefers.

Intresting what TheTeaPot stated since owning the x8 i've only ever played my games at 1024x768. I've also read you only see the true power of the x8 when playing games at higher res,in many cases you will get lower fps unless played higher than 1024x768. My monitor is a crappy generic 17inch which struggle's above 1024x768. If set at 1280x1024 then refresh rate will drop below 60 so im never see more than 60fps,it looks pretty awful. I always play at 1024x768,80 refresh which is prob the reason why i've yet to see a great improvement over my old 9800pro. As Deadly_Assassin stated i figure i should hold back on sli*for the time being*,get myself the a8v rev2,and with the money im saving order a decent 19-21inch crt. I truly was in 2 minds what to do so thanks for the help  |
