Most registry cleaners make a back up of the register before deleting invalid registrysettings, try looking for that one!

If you happened to delete that one in a pissed of mood, happy harddisk formatting then
Use this one next time...

I use jv 16 PowerTool.
jv 16 is the best I of all the reg cleaning prgs I have tried so far. BUT it is also the
Babylon under all the prgs I tried. Use it carefully and play to much aroun with it or
Mr. Reinstall will be your middle name.

I also got RegSeeker, Exellent Freeware.
Very good if you're cheap, or say I don't wanna spend money type of guy. This one finds most
of the useless or unused regs but jv16 always finds more. But as I said jv 16 will also rip your
regs when it decides it doesn't like your nose.

now how did we get from 'never let an untrained ape on your PC' to Reg cleaning?

It wasnt a regestry cleaner that pooched me. It was a defrag tool. And like I said Every program is still on the hard disk its just they wont run as it says its not a valid win32 image. I would post a sceen shot of what it looks like but, no paint program will run

Yes, but the reg is the key of the prg for winXP. If thereg is gone XP won't recognise it as a win prg anymore.
At least that's what I've been just told.

Don't know why but i've never trusted any freeware offering to mess with my registry
I've got used to doing a clean install around every 3 month which keeps things ship shape.
Although i am going to take Kami's advice and give RegSeeker a whirl"becouse im cheap"
Kami i'll leave you accountable for any mishaps ;)
