Ok, my system isnt great, im running a mid-low grade mobo, but i run other games just fine.. i dont have the money to do a huge upgrade..... however my system is an althon xp 1800+ ati radeon 9800 pro, with 512meg sdram... :/ now i can run bf 2 sometimes decent on medium.. but its still somewhat choppy and low... .. and everynow and then it will take a huge chug and my hd starts goin crazy for a second then everything kicks back up... i have about 100 dollars on an upgrade here.... i can get 1gig of ddr ram pc3200.....for that price.. would that boost my overall performance as well as in the game... im shooting for like medium here... at a smooth fram rate that doesnt chug alot or none at all.. when i first get into a game its the worst..... so what would yall recommend.... id upgrade my processor.. but id have to change my motherboard... so this is a small but aa good performance upgrade.... i think its a ram issue... but idk.. i need some hlep.. im running xp with sp2 ... most other games but doom 3 i can run smooth hl2 chugs a little bit on high, but its not that big... would the ram really help that much?? thx

Yeah, the ram does make such a difference. Youre loading times and graphics should improve (grapics only moderate though).

Dont forget to defrag your harddrive, get the Ati omega drivers (these have got a special 9800 softmod) and clean your registry with this.

I remember I took out a stick of 256mb of some crappy ram from my parent's computer. America's Army was almost unplayable with 256mb less ram. Im figuring that the gig of ram will make the game have very few hitches, but your framerate will be about the same. The ram would make the largest difference in your situation though. Good luck.

i think im going to do it.. cause im using pc133 512meg ram... and 1 gig of pc3200 ram would be a big difference right?? i mean i imagine i'd have better frams due to a larger memory cache cause, i alt tabbed bf2 and i had like less than 60 available ram..... it was using 333 megs or something.... i'm just looking for the best for the 100 dollars...

ok if your using pc133 ram right now you need to make sure that your mobo could support pc3200, that is a huge jump.

Im not sure what pc133 is, but pc3200 is dd400.
if you get pc3200 and your cumputer cant support it, im not sure if it will just reject them, or if it will make the RAM run at the fastest speed that the mobo can support, which may be pc133. If your mobo doesnt support pc3200 then your wasting a bunch of money on good expensive ram when you would do better with some cheaper ram. I hope you read this before you order your ram.

Well theres actually a store that sells to retailers.... i can get a gig for 100 dollars there... mostly cause i go in there a lot... im rather sure it can... i can always take it back there if it doesnt.. its not a far drive, i can try it there in the store... they know me rather well... i've built a few computers there.. ill have to crack the mobo manual out to see, but i think it does... but if it can... will i notice a huge difference?

people started screaming to upgrade to 2 Gigs of RAM when speaking about BF2. the Ram issue on this game is highly anticipated, and somewhat the most affordable upgrade you can get.
